Legalize Marijuana

Legalization of Marijuana

The legalization of marijuana is the way to end all Drug Wars and stop the monopoly of the subsidized prison systems. Our government and corporations are getting paid every time someone goes to prison for non-violent crimes due to marijuana arrests. Drug laws need to be rewritten to make them sane and people based. We need to end the prohibition on marijuana and legalize it.

Agreed. The big bad War on Drugs is wasting their time on marijuana. If marijuana was legalized citizens wouldn’t go out of they’re way to distroy National Forrest to hide from the big bad special task forces just for marijuana. The problem with prop 8 was it was just thrown out there real quick and no clear guidelines. People didn’t know where they stood because they didn’t understand the law. REVOTE! We have to legalize it MEDICINE! Our fellow citizens, vets & sick or hurting patients need it. N-E-E-D.

I am with you Roseanne seems like a long time since someone has worried for our country.

  3. Cameron says:

I think they should legalize it, not just for medical reasons but
    1. It’ll give jobs, which bring in more money
    2. It’s NOWHERE near as bad as alcohol, you can control yourself unlike alcohol. They should make it like alcohol to where you cant drive and do it if thats what they’re scared of.
    3. Nobody has ever overdosed on it.
    4. It’s better for you than cigarettes, it’s a natural substance, no chemicals (unlike cigs and alcohol)
    5. It relieves pain like headaches, back pain, etc.
    6. It’s better replacement for pills for nerves.
    7. It makes most people focus on what they’re doing.
    8. It makes people relax.
    9. It’s NOT a gateway “drug” you cant blame an object for making people try other things
    10. It was here way before any law was.
    11. If it cant be legal then neither should alcohol, cigarettes, and pills. All three of those things kill millions of people each year, but never has anyone died because of pot.
    12. The jails would have more rooms for people that commit crimes that actually put people in danger. The news the other day were talking about how they were over populated.
    13. It’s not addicting! I know plenty of people who have addicting personalities smoke for years then just quit cold turkey without any problems.

I think those are enough for now, i could write more but i think everybody gets my point. It’s not a harmful thing. If the government knew how much it would help the economy they would pass it. They should out law pain pills, those are man made, which kill your liver, which end up killing you. Just because they pass it doesnt mean that EVERYBODY has to do it. They can have the same laws for it like they do cigarettes or alcohol. Someone told me would you want a surgeon to operate on you while they’re high? So i replied would you like him to be drunk? If it does get legalized the criminal rate for it would go down quite a bit. And if they say they dont know how they would tax it, what about the vegetables people grow and sell? It’s simple. But some people dont want to think about it like that. But thats just my opinion :)

You have some good points in relation to the medical field. I would like to address some of your other points though.
#2 & #13 – it IS addictive. It is a drug. All drugs have the capacity to be addicting. Whether they are legal or not. Anything that has research behind it showing the effects of minimizing judgement capacities in someone DOES make controlling oneself an issue. It if is ever legalized then I agree with your point of making it illegal to drive while under the influence of marijuana. (Note the phrase, “under the influence”).
#3 & #9 – Define overdose. Has anyone ever been killed solely by marijuana? No. But your point is limited. It is a gateway drug in that once the body adapts to the effects of marijuana (again go back to my last comment and the phrase, “under the influence”) then that person who is trying to “relax” as you say in #8 will go looking for new drugs and ways to get that same effect, or buzz, or whatever you choose to call it.
#7 – I’m curious as to where you are getting your information on ‘most people focusing on what they are doing’. Again, the phrase “under the influence” comes to mind.
#13 – You need to study more about addictions. This example is the exception and not the rule. I would be curious to know how many people is “plenty of people” compared to the millions who attend addiction recovery groups in the United States alone. Not to mention the teenagers and adults currently in residential in AND out patient treatment centers. Having worked in that arena for 7+ years, you really need to learn more about addictions and what it does to people mentally, physically, and on biological/molecular levels.

Another point you made in your last paragraph about the surgeon is not valid because medical professionals can be disbarred and lose their licenses for operating or working while under the influence (there’s that phrase again).

And, of course the criminal rate would go down if you legalized it. The United States will have just lowered their standards on the drug war. Over time, those who support harder drugs would be clamoring for that same bar to be lowered for their drug. When would it stop?

Having made my own points, I think a hybrid law needs to be in effect. Legalized MEDICAL marijuana is a different issue than just legalizing ALL marijuana use. Until Americans get on the same page and work together to stop the drug war from it’s roots (being proactive instead of reactive) this problem is going to be harder to solve.

I cast my vote for this ticket today. Ms Barr and Ms. Sheehan are folks who actually care about our country and it’s senseless wars. Against drugs or nations war is crap and so are those who push for them.

I’m so there with legalization, my request when you become prez is that we need to make sure that nasty tobacco companies don’t take over the medicine because they would defeat the purpose of the plant by producing it with chemicals and other additives, be sure local farmers that are organic and produce it with love stay alive! Bless, about time we have someone speaking the truth to our brothers and sisters! Go Roseanne! =]

  7. Mary says:

Roseanne, I think the main opponent you’d have in legalizing marijuana is the pharmaceutical companies. When I went on Medicare, I no longer had enough money for all of the medications I needed at the time. As a result, since I’ve been smoking pot most of my life anyway, I was able to use it to get myself off of all of my antidepressants and sleep disorder drugs. If 10% of the pot smokers in this country could do that, Big Pharma would necessarily turn into Little Pharma, and that would make them (and their supporters) very unhappy. Boo hoo.

Also, I’d really like to vote for you, but because you’re not running on a major ticket, my vote would be swallowed up by all the voters who think they have to vote either Democrat or Republican. Until I got my mail-in ballot, I didn’t even know you were running. Maybe you should’ve made more noise or something. I don’t know. Good luck anyway.

  8. Cara says:

As a board certified therapist in Colordo with an extended Master’s Degree, I can tell you that I completely agree with legalizing marijuana. I just have to say that the one comment that drives me completely insane is that marijuana is a gateway drug! There is no better way to lie or sway things your way then saying “Well a study showed….”. The two things a true study must have are validity ( is it measuring what it says it is) and reliability ( can it be replicated and produce about the same response). The studies that are being used do NOT meet those standards by a long shot! They asked people that were IN REHAB what drugs they used and when they used. Well of course people addicted to hard drugs started with pot and alcohol. It is not valid to use this study on any popliation other than the popliation in rehab. That is like going to an Obama rally and asking who loves Rush Limbaugh and then saying no one in America likes Rush Limbaugh ( well maybe that was a bad example I am sure someone out there does-maybe).
So really what the conclusions of the study were people who are in rehab had also used marijuana – NOT marijuana is a gateway drug!!!! If it was a true statement then alcohol would actually be the number one gateway drug!

  9. Evan says:

Besides the stated above, the legalization of Cannabis would open new avenues for means of new super-efficent & cost effective fuels, textiles, building material, etc. the list goes on. Let us take back our country from the ‘Alpha’ industries. Let us advance to clean burning technologies. ‘If there is a new way, I’ll be the first in line, but it better work this time.’

  10. Mike Zelinsky says:

Considering the number of comments under “Legalize Marijuana” vs. the other points on the Barr/Sheehan platform, it makes me wonder, where are these folks’ priorities?

  11. Remarkable things here. I am very glad to see your post. Thanks a lot and I am taking a look forward to touch you. Will you please drop me a mail?

  12. Excellent story, I am going to bookmark Legalize Marijuana : Roseanne For President 2012.

  13. Amanda says:

The amount of farmers that could benefit from the legalization of marijuana, the amount of taxes that the US Government could help reduce the debt. Also ending the war on the drug Marijuana will free up the resources of law enforcements to focus on hard drugs, crack, heroin, cocaine and meth etc. You want to stop the illegal drug trade make it legal – then you don’t have to worry about the drug cartels.

  14. Tonya says:

MWhat’s the worse that could happen?
Ppl sit at home, smoke a joint/blunt
get the munchies, then they grab some junk food and eat,
they get cotton mouth and grab a soda.

If its legal it will create jobs (isn’t our unemployment rate pretty high right now)
If its legal the city, county, state, country will tax it creating more money for each
If its legal there can be an age limit on who can buy it (say over 18)

  15. Francine says:

    Agreed!!!

  16. russ b says:

It should be legal to grow your own. I don’t like the idea of it being a vehicle for another sin tax. It should be treated as a herb, nothing more or less. I recommend that you don’t inhale smoke in any form, but that is your call.

The only thing that makes it dangerous now is the law. Traffic laws already on the books make it illegal to drive high and rightly so.

Even driving under the influence can be managed well by SOME people who slow down, knowing their skills are compromised. But this is too difficult for the laws to deal with. There are some tea totalers who lack skill and are prone to accident. Its all a mixed bag but people are looking for the easy answer, quickly condemning that which they don’t understand. So, …I agree, illegal to drive stoned.
